Aims

  • To provide Social Care Managers and Senior Practitioners with an opportunity to develop and/or refresh their knowledge and skills in relation to effective, reflective supervision
  • To build on the models and tools provided within the Organising and Driving Performance Programme

Objectives

  1. Explain the external changes and internal drivers for supervision
  2. Describe the place of supervision in relation to the appraisal process and ODP programme within Adult Social Care
  3. List the key components of an effective supervision session
  4. Identify the skills, knowledge and attitude of an effective supervisor
  5. Assess and reflect upon your current supervision practice and identify ways to continue to develop as a supervisor
  6. Use coaching and reflective supervision models and tools to support staff performance
  7. Practice the key skills of an effective supervisor, e.g. how to give feedback, negotiate a supervision agreement and SMART action plan, coaching skills
  8. Describe your role in staff learning and development and apply relevant learning theories to individuals you manage
  9. Explain the importance of SMART plans and recording within supervision
  10. Demonstrate how to work together in a solution focussed way to overcome challenges
  11. Apply the learning to ‘real’ situations
